The Cellmate Secrets season 1 finale centers on Hubers, who was convicted twice of murdering her on-again, off-again boyfriend Ryan Poston. Her first conviction in 2015 was overturned on appeal when one of the jurors was revealed to be a convicted felon, but prosecutors retired Hubers and earned a second guilty verdict in 2018.
This TV episode features an interview with one of Hubers’ friends at the University of Kentucky, Carissa Carlisle, who also happens to be Poston’s cousin. Carlisle details Hubers’ manipulative nature and how she convinced Poston to rekindle their relationship before his murder.
But in keeping with the title of the series, it also includes comments from some of Shayna Hubers’ cellmates; according to Lifetime, they’ll talk about her “shocking prison confessions.” Since this case has been the focus of other true crime shows, including Oxygen’s Snapped and It Takes A Killer, viewers will have to see what they say that hasn’t been divulged before.
Cellmate Secrets season 2 is still to be decided; Lifetime has yet to decide if they’re renewing or canceling the series, which is narrated by Angie Harmon (Rizzoli & Isles, Law & Order).
