Law and Order: Organized Crime is recruiting from another NBC hit series. Deadline reports that Ron Cephas Jones, who plays William Hill on This Is Us, will appear in multiple Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 episodes.
Emmy winner Jones will portray Leon Kilbride, a Congressman described as “a born politician who fosters connections and always plays his cards right.”
Meanwhile, Vinnie Jones (Galavant) has been cast in another recurring role on the crime drama that has him poised to butt heads with Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler. His character Albi Briscu is an Eastern European gangster, which seems to point toward the theme of season 2.
Though Jones isn’t being billed as a main cast member like Dylan McDermott was, if he’s not the primary villain of season 2, he’s got to be a major player. He has enough name recognition that it wouldn’t make much sense for him to play a smaller role.
It’ll also be fun to see if NBC takes full advantage of Cephas Jones’ resume and does some cross-promotion, such as running Organized Crime ads during This Is Us. The two shows are very different, and thus may not appeal to the same audiences, but will any This Is Us fans check out Law & Order: Organized Crime just to see Ron Cephas Jones, given how great he is?
McDermott has already been announced as returning, albeit only on a recurring basis, for Law & Order: Organized Crime season 2 after his character Richard Wheatley was arrested at the end of season 1. The second season premieres Thursday, September 23 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
